Exceptional Student Ed MA Special Education

Exceptional Student Education, M.A. in Special Education is an online master’s program designed to prepare teachers, administrators, and related professionals and specialists in exceptional student education. Coursework covers specialized teaching strategies, legal and ethical aspects of educating students with disabilities, and developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

The program includes 33 credit hours with required core courses, an educational investigative sequence, and special education courses. Students complete content focused on evidence-based instructional strategies, research evidence evaluation, argument development for curriculum and assessment practices, and use of data and responsive teaching practices to support equitable learning experiences.

To be considered for provisional admission, applicants must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution. Other criteria include:

• An institutional undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on the last 60 hours of coursework in the baccalaureate degree.
• Applicants who do not meet the minimum GPA requirements may be granted conditional admission with a corresponding high rubric score on their letter of intent.

To apply, applicants must submit a graduate admission application (plus a $30 application fee) and submit official transcripts confirming a bachelor’s degree from an institution whose accrediting agency is included on the list of UWF approved accrediting agencies. Applicants must also submit a letter of intent that includes educational and career background, short- and long-term goals, contributions the applicant would like to make to the field of study, and any strengths they feel they can bring to the program.

A grade of C or better is required for all coursework to be applied to the degree program.
