Field Ecology and Conservation BA

The Field Ecology and Conservation BA at Prescott College combines field ecology and conservation work with classroom study. Students spend over half their time outdoors, identifying and inventorying native plants, monitoring seabird nesting behavior on offshore islands, and restoring riparian ecosystems. In class, they study evolutionary theory, the life histories of organisms, and field methods for ecological research.

Learning is experiential and field-based, with classes averaging a dozen students and teaching methods designed for small, interactive groups. Some courses occur entirely in the classroom, others entirely in the field, and most include both indoor and outdoor learning elements. Students apply what they learn on field studies, and can choose concentrations such as Marine Studies, Natural History Interpretation, Sustainable Food Systems, and Environmental Education.
