Fine Arts, Art—Associate in Fine Arts at Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) prepares students for transfer to a four-year college, university, or design school and for an introduction to art. The curriculum is equivalent to the freshman and sophomore years in many four-year bachelor’s degree programs in art or a foundation program at a design school. Students take courses at foundation, intermediate, and specialized levels.
The program includes studio work in drawing, color, and two- and three-dimensional design, plus studio and art history courses. Students also complete ENGL 1010, Survey of Western Civilization I and II, humanities and elective requirements, and choose among mathematics or science electives and music or theatre electives. Studio courses require extended blocks of time. Students are expected to work closely with full-time Art Department faculty starting in the first semester, build a portfolio for transfer or personal use, and follow a recommended course sequence from 1000 to level.
