Environmental Studies

The Environmental Studies minor complements an undergraduate major by introducing scientific, political, and cultural aspects of environmental problems. Students build awareness of paths toward sustainable solutions. The minor also provides background for environmentally related careers in business, education, law, policy, or research, and preparation for graduate study.

To complete the minor, students use at least 15 credits solely for the Environmental Studies minor requirements. Coursework includes required Environmental Systems courses with labs, two foundation courses chosen from research methods and social sciences options, elective courses, and ENVS 4943, Environmental Seminar, offered every spring semester.

At least 15 credits must be used solely for the ENVS minor requirements (i.e.,only 4 credits can be shared with requirements for your major or the University Core).

Your ENVS minor courses must involve at least three different departments.

Requirements also include: (A) EESC2201 plus lab; (B) one Environmental Systems course plus lab; (C) two foundation courses (6 credits) with one chosen from Research Methods and one chosen from Social Sciences; (D) 2 or more elective courses (at least 6 credits) including at least three credits from courses numbered 3000 and above; and (E) ENVS 4943, Environmental Seminar, (3 credits), offered every spring semester.
