Transformative Educational Studies

The Bachelor of Arts in Transformative Educational Studies examines fundamental educational questions during a time of social and educational transformation. Students learn to reflect on the direction and purpose of their own education and to make contributions to improve the quality of human experience and make society more just. Coursework covers theories and strategies in Curriculum, Justice, Equity, Global Perspectives, and Formative Education.

Students focus on questions such as what it means to be an educated person, whether schooling supports social reproduction or social change, and how education responds to technology, media, literacy, work, and contemporary social, environmental, and health crises. The major includes core courses, the Senior Seminar in Transformative Education (FORM 4900), and six major electives selected from listed options.
