The Global Citizenship in Education Graduate Certificate at Towson University is designed to enhance the knowledge and practice of educators who prepare young people for active participation in the community and the world. The program focuses on global interdependence, contemporary issues, and the connection between local and global issues. It aims to develop globally competent citizens by enhancing teachers’ knowledge and skills for P-16 students.
The certificate requires completion of 12 units of course work. It includes four SCED courses: Global Citizenship Education: Theory, Research and Policy; Globalization and Global Issues; Teaching Global Issues; and a Capstone Seminar in Global Citizenship Education. It can be earned as a stand-alone certificate or alongside a doctoral or master’s (M.Ed.) degree, with up to 12 units of electives when completed as part of a graduate degree program.
The program is designed to accommodate students with at least a baccalaureate degree, who are interested in internationalizing the school curriculum and programs.
