Graduate Certificate in Adventure Therapy

The Graduate Certificate in Adventure Therapy at Westminster University is a program that supplements a career in mental health counseling. Students complete three intensive courses (9 credit hours) and build foundational knowledge and skills to implement clinically effective, ethical, and culturally relevant adventure therapy programming.

The program includes courses titled CCE 651: Foundations of Adventure-Based Counseling, CCE 652: Professional Practice in Adventure-Based Counseling, and CCE 653: Clinical Practice in Adventure-Based Counseling. Students examine sociocultural and environmental implications, client assessment models, professional standards, and clinical documentation for adventure therapy settings.

Classes typically run during the spring and May term semesters. The program is designed for already degreed mental health or recreational therapists, or for students enrolled in Westminster University’s Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MSCMHC) program, and it supports specialization in adventure therapy and integration into existing practice.
