Hispanic Studies MA

The Hispanic Studies MA is a Master of Arts that covers linguistics, literature, history, and culture. It focuses on Latin American, peninsular, Francophone, Portuguese, and Brazilian studies, with a thesis or non-thesis option.

The program uses a traditional, face-to-face seminar format. Students who live outside the Nacogdoches area can join through Zoom, and distance-learning opportunities use real-time web video each semester with department chair approval before starting coursework. On campus, students are eligible to apply for graduate assistantships. The program can take 3 years to complete.

To be eligible for consideration into the program, you must:

• meet SFA's graduate school requirements.
• achieve an undergraduate 3.0 GPA or higher
• hold a completed bachelor's degree in Spanish, Latin American studies or a related field from an accredited higher institution
• have completed at least 12 hours of advanced-undergraduate coursework in Spanish as a way of documenting academic proficiency in the language
• and provide two letters of recommendation from former professors.
• If you don't meet the minimum requirements, you may be admitted on a provisional basis under the guidance of the graduate studies advisor.
