Marine Biology Bs

The Marine Biology B.S. at the University of West Florida builds on a core of biological sciences, including genetics, ecology, cell biology, and organismal biology. It then moves into electives that emphasize the theoretical and applied dimensions of aquatic and marine systems. Students develop skills in field sampling, specimen collection and identification, laboratory analysis, and scientific communication.

Marine biology is primarily a face-to-face program, with classes available through face-to-face, hybrid, and online delivery methods. Students use a Marine Research Center with a fleet of research vessels, collection gear, and field and laboratory instrumentation. Options include working with a faculty mentor on an active funded project, conducting a directed independent study, or pursuing an Honors thesis. Up to 12 credit hours of graduate coursework may be completed during the undergraduate degree.
