About this program

The Master of Arts in Psychology at Kentucky State University is a psychology graduate degree program with two concentrations: a Forensic Science Concentration and a Forensic Counseling Concentration (Licensure Option). The program uses a scientist-practitioner model and combines rigorous coursework, research, and service activities. It takes a multidisciplinary approach to psychology and law through theoretical perspectives from psychology, sociology, and criminology, along with basic and applied research methods and statistical techniques.

The program is a 60 credit-hour degree and includes a 600 practicum experience in counseling and assessment. Students develop competencies for the science and practice of psychology and for studying the intersection of behavioral and social science and law. The Forensic Counseling Concentration develops competencies for mental health counseling and uses joint course offerings with the Forensic Science Concentration.

Graduates are prepared to go on to doctoral study in psychology or to work in industry, government, mental health care, or private practice. The program also prepares graduates for roles in individual and family services and in residential and outpatient mental health and substance abuse facilities, including state, local, and private hospitals and government agencies. Graduates can also provide forensic psychological services if desired.
