The Master of Education in Educational Leadership (MEDL) is an online Master of Education that prepares students for advanced education management and leadership skills. The curriculum covers schoolwide planning, technology implementation, management logistics, and the appropriation and allocation of public financial resources for education. It also includes study aligned with ELCC standards, the Standards for School Principals in Louisiana, and PSEL.
The program is delivered online and is approximately 12 months in length. It includes 34 credit hours covering career-specific objectives, including leadership theories and planning models, involvement of communities with public schools, American school law applied to school settings, and interpreting research to identify best practices that support student motivation, engagement, and achievement.
The degree is described as the first step in the principal (or school leader) certification process. Students are advised to research licensing agency requirements for the certification exams often called PRAXIS exams in order to comply with professional certification requirements.
Applicants to this program should have a graduate degree from an accredited university OR a bachelor's degree from an accredited university with a minimum 2.5 overall GPA or minimum 2.75 GPA in last 60 semester hours of courses.
