Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health (MPH) is a graduate degree offered through a collaboration between Louisiana State University Shreveport and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Shreveport. Core courses address 22 competencies and 12 areas of knowledge identified by the Council on Education for Public Health as essential for all public health master’s degree students to demonstrate. Students complete field experiences based on their interests.

MPH study includes experiential learning: a 150-hour practicum experience followed by either a capstone or thesis project. Students work with organizations including the Martin Luther King Health Center, the LSU AG Center, and other community-based agencies. The program also requires a Comprehensive Final Examination and a culminating experience (capstone or thesis). Face-to-face and accelerated 100% online options are available, with convenient evening classes.

In addition to general University requirements for admission to graduate studies, students who meet the admission criteria for LSUS Graduate Studies must also meet the following program-specific criteria to be considered for admission into the MPH degree program:

• Bachelor’s degree from a university accredited by one of the following institutional accrediting agencies: Higher Learning Commission (HLC), Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) & WASC Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), with minimum 3.0 overall GPA or minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 semester hours;
• Three electronic recommendations submitted to the MPH Program Director;
• Completion of an asynchronous interview.

Upon receipt of these requirements, the MPH Admission Committee will make admission decisions based on all materials submitted to the University and the MPH Program. No GRE score is required for this program.
