The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MSCMHC) at Westminster University is CACREP-accredited and is housed within the Counseling and Counselor Education program in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. The program focuses on the fundamentals of counseling theory and practice, with emphasis on ethical behavior, counseling theories, and professional counseling skills. It also aims to build counselor professional identity, ethical and legal decision-making, and critical thinking.
Learning is described as an experiential and interpersonal environment that supports personal and professional growth. Program objectives include applying theories of human development to clients’ needs, facilitating psychoeducational and process groups, and selecting and interpreting assessment measures across academic/educational, career, personality, and developmental areas. Students also complete training to support diagnosis and treatment plan design for a broad range of mental health issues, and to critically evaluate research to inform counseling practice.
