Master of Science in Clinical Rehab Counseling

The Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling at Louisiana State University Shreveport develops professional rehabilitation counselors. The program emphasizes cultural competency and prepares you to work with people who have physical, developmental, cognitive, psychological, and/or neurological disabilities or illnesses. It prepares graduates for professional rehabilitation counseling careers and doctoral study.

The program follows a practitioner-scientist model, with clinical practice plus scholarly knowledge and a strong focus on research design and methodology. The second year includes practicum and internship opportunities for hands-on clinical experience in varied settings. Coursework is primarily offered in the evenings or in online or hybrid formats, and some courses include a self-assessment of wellness conducted at the beginning and end of the course.

Applicants must complete the online LSUS Application for Graduate Admission and submit transcripts to the Office of Admissions and Records. Applicants must also submit to [email protected]: (1) at least THREE letters of reference; (2) a completed MS Program Application Form; and (3) Letter of Intent (essay) articulating a) the reasons for wanting to become a mental health and/or rehabilitation counselor, b) preliminary interests (e.g., clinical populations, specific mental health issues), c) plans after the degree and d) why our program is the ideal fit (4) A current Resumé/CV. In addition, applicant's credentials should provide evidence of freedom from limitations that would jeopardize their success as a professional counselor. Once all admissions paperwork is complete, a formal interview is required with the program faculty. Admission decisions are competitive, and enrollment into the program is limited.
