Master of Science in Secondary Education in School Counseling

The Master of Science in Secondary Education (MSEd) at Alcorn State University has a concentration in School Counseling. The program offers endorsements in 14 areas and prepares students as counselors in the educational arena and the mental health field.

Students develop skills for self-direction in health life choices and build competencies in professional identity, social and cultural diversity, human growth and development, career development, helping relationships, group work, assessment, and research and program evaluation (CACREP). The curriculum includes 51 credit hours of coursework and passing required exit exams, with 9 hours of required core credits and 42 hours of required course credits. Exit requires passing the Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination.

Students applying for entrance to the Master of Science in Secondary Education in School Counseling are required to submit an application for admission, Apply Online (www.alcorn.edu/academics/graduate-studies).

Decisions are made only after receipt of all credentials by the Department of Education and Psychology admission committee. The department uses an admission formula to accept students. The entire application packet, including all supporting materials, must be submitted to the Graduate School.

The Graduate Record Examination General Test (GRE) is required for admission to the Master of Science in Secondary Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. WAIVED
