This Master’s programme at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette provides an option in French immersion for teacher certification. It is designed for students who earned a bachelor’s degree in disciplines other than teaching in elementary schools. The programme includes two options: elementary teaching and elementary teaching in a French-language immersion context.
The French-language immersion option is a bilingual teaching programme for students whose native language is not French. Students learn French and subjects taught in French, such as mathematics, science, and history. Both concentrations include 39 course hours over 14 months, with an autumn semester, a spring semester, and two summer semesters. The curriculum also includes a minimum of three hybrid or online courses, plus teaching practicum in local elementary schools during the spring and autumn semesters.
Applicants must have earned a bachelor’s degree in French, in French-language studies (études francophones), or in French and French-language studies (combining the required programmes). If applicants earned a bachelor’s degree in other disciplines instead, they must prove their French language skills by taking standardized tests.
