UL Lafayette offers master’s and PhD programs in mathematics. Students can explore applied mathematics, pure mathematics, and statistics. The programs focus on taking apart and reassembling the foundations of math to solidify understanding, with opportunities to invent and discover new math and to communicate ideas with colleagues, future employers, and future students.
In the master’s program, students choose one of three concentrations: applied math, pure math, and statistics. They also are introduced to independent study and research, and they observe and lead seminars, continue research, and work closely with an advisor. The PhD program emphasizes long-term independent research, including a dissertation, seminar leadership, and publishing work.
