The Master of Urban Planning online program is an applied, practice-oriented course of study within Hunter College’s Master’s Program in Urban Policy and Planning. Students study land-use planning, policy analysis, Geographic Information Systems, and urban data analytics, with training that includes Python programming, data visualization, and ethical approaches to urban data. The program offers two concentrations: General Planning and Urban Informatics.
The program begins with five courses that mirror the curriculum of the in-person program. Classes are capped at 15 students to encourage faculty-student interaction. Instruction is delivered live in real time by a mix of regular faculty and adjuncts hired for the purpose, with an emphasis on real-world application and close mentorship.
