The University of West Florida offers an online M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction. The program is designed to deepen understanding of education and prepare graduates for an instructional or leadership role. Students study topics in child development and learning, needs of exceptional students and evidence-based practices, classroom management, educational assessment, and interpreting empirical research. The program includes a focus on blending content areas to meet student needs.
The degree requires 33 credit hours. Students complete a required core of 12 credit hours, including courses on Exceptionalities, Issues in Classroom Management, Principles of Curriculum and Instruction, and Foundations of Education: A Bioecological Systems Perspective. A further 6 credit hours come from an Educational Research sequence (Applied Research and Introduction to Research). After that, students choose one of three cognate areas: elementary education, middle level education, or secondary education.
