Music Education BA

The Music Education BA at Whitworth University combines theoretical and practical study in music to build a foundation in music theory, ear training, music history, conducting, and choral and instrumental techniques, along with technical skill in individual and ensemble performance. The program is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.

Students practice and rehearse in the Cowles Music Center. The professional education courses are taken from the School of Education, and students are mentored by master teachers in elementary, middle, and high schools through hands-on practicums and student-teaching experiences. Students also take one of two tracks: Choral/General or Instrumental/General.

The program includes performance and touring opportunities for ensembles such as wind symphony, jazz ensembles, and concert band, along with other ensembles open to all students. Graduates pursue roles as music educators at public, private, and parochial schools, as music education supervisors, and as private instructors.
