The Music Production and Songwriting B.A. (Music – Music Production & Songwriting Track) at Whitworth University prepares students to compose and produce commercial music for entrepreneurial careers in the music industry. Students study sound design and music synthesis, plus orchestration and composition, with electives that personalize learning and support career options.
Instruction includes one-on-one lessons and hands-on work using digital audio workstations, synthesizers, and other tools during weekly lessons. The program also includes courses in recording, production, and the music industry, along with weekly composition seminars, composition forums each semester, and study in the Cowles Music Center with a recording control room, high-end microphones and preamps, and a keyboard and production lab.
Students build community through ensembles and composition activities, and they can enter composition competitions. The track is aimed at students seeking roles connected to commercial music, including music for the church, general audiences, advertising, film, multimedia, and video games.
