The Ph.D. in School Psychology prepares graduates for careers as scientist-practitioners. The program emphasizes cultural and individual diversity and uses rigorous evidence-based decision-making. It integrates research and practice, and focuses on skills for leadership positions in health service psychology. Students gain knowledge and competencies to function as health service psychologists in school and other settings, including direct and indirect services.

The degree is awarded based on subject-matter knowledge, demonstrated ability to do independent research, and demonstrated competencies for practice as a health service psychologist. Students must complete an APA accredited internship and defend a dissertation prior to graduation. A student who has completed a master’s degree follows a degree plan with 36 hours for the M.Ed. plus an additional 64 hours for the doctoral degree. Students also complete required coursework, residency, and technical requirements, alongside these research and practice expectations.

Program graduates work in public and private schools, hospitals and medical clinics, community-based health and educational organizations, and university settings including academic positions. They also work in settings such as school districts, hospital/medical centers, community mental health clinics, independent practice, juvenile justice, and university counseling centers.

• Application reviews occur in December; full program faculty select students for virtual interviews
• Expect a formal interview, informative sessions, and interaction with both faculty and graduate students
