This course is an Environmental and Evolutionary Biology Ph.D. program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, connected here through the example of a Biology Ph.D. candidate serving as a graduate teaching assistant. The teaching assistant supports undergraduate students in the classroom, including students enrolled in BIOL 112, which largely enrolls freshmen biology majors with minimal laboratory experience.
The teaching assistant’s role includes reviewing proposed course materials before the start of the semester, consulting on improvements to laboratory activities and assignments, and providing feedback on reports and assignments. It also includes offering help sessions for difficult skills and make-up lab sessions for students unable to attend due to quarantine, plus leaving time before each lab for students to share and ask questions. When questions require follow-up, additional answers are posted on Moodle for the class.
