The University of Louisiana at Lafayette will offer a PhD Program in Systems Engineering. The program trains students to solve large, complex engineering systems, including coastal ecosystems, water treatment facilities, computer networks, aircraft, and fiber optic networks.
The curriculum includes two components: a systems engineering core and an engineering concentration core. Students select a technical concentration to maintain their discipline specialty while gaining systems engineering expertise. All five engineering departments—chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, and petroleum—will participate, with mandatory leadership training and possible commercialization of research discoveries.
The program is designed for engineering students ready to move into the new graduate program, with at least 10 current engineering students prepared to enter.
