Political Science Bachelor's

Southern Utah University offers a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science (BA or BS) through the Department of Political Science & Criminal Justice. The program focuses on political philosophy, public administration, law, international relations, and American government. Students use faculty expertise to engage in critical analysis of political systems and explore diverse perspectives.

Students gain practical experience through internships, study abroad programs, and participation in undergraduate research. Political Science students also contribute to the production of the department’s peer-reviewed journal, Critical Issues in Justice and Politics. The degree is available on-campus and through an online learning platform with structured coursework, faculty access for help and mentorship, and course availability for both online and on-campus students.

The program supports career preparation for roles in government, law, diplomacy, intelligence, public administration, and policy analysis. Career examples include positions in state and national government, international relations, law enforcement, lobbying, and journalism. Students can also join organizations such as Pi Sigma Alpha, the Legal Studies Student Association, and the Intramural Mock Trial Competition.
