The Public, Technical and Workplace Writing Undergraduate Certificate at the University of West Florida is an online program that develops writing skills for professional environments. Students analyze and write content across public, technical, and workplace settings, covering communication strategies, public and workplace documents, and ethical authorship practices.
The certificate is composed of 12 credit hours. Foundation courses include Digital Writing, Professional and Technical Writing, and a Writing and Editing Internship. Students then choose one elective: Grant Writing, Writing for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Majors, or Grammar for Professional Success. The program finishes with a detailed portfolio that showcases learned communication skills for various audiences.
This certificate is designed for students who want writing and communication skills that can apply across career fields, including academic, creative, scientific, technological, and medical, as well as developing professions. On completion, it prepares students for roles such as Corporate Communication Specialist, Grant Writer, Technical Writer, and others listed for this program.
Admission Requirements: To be considered for admission to the University of West Florida’s online Public, Technical, and Workplace Writing undergraduate certificate program, you must be admitted to the University as an undergraduate degree or non-degree seeking student.
How to Apply: Once accepted as a degree or non-degree seeking undergraduate student, prospective students for this certificate must contact the undergraduate advisor from the Department of English to start the Declaration of Certificate process before the drop/add period of the semester of completion. Students must also complete the online Undergraduate Certificate Declaration Form on MyUWF.
