American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship Fall

American University states that the AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship (AU EGLS) promotes educational access and opportunity while enhancing international diversity. American University describes the scholarship’s purpose as supporting international students who will help address issues faced by under-resourced, underserved communities in their home country.

American University says the AU EGLS covers all billable AU expenses for two international students who will need a non-immigrant visa to study in the United States, preferably an F-1 or J-1. American University also states that students interested in all majors offered at American University are eligible to apply.

American University describes a two-step application process that includes submitting the Common Application and supporting documents first, then submitting the AU EGLS application and essays via an applicant portal. American University also states that Zoom interviews and/or additional essay submissions are required for AU EGLS semi-finalists and finalists, and finalists and award winners are notified by a specified date.

American University states the AU EGLS is renewable for a total of four years of undergraduate study, based on continued satisfactory academic performance. American University also states that the AU EGLS does not cover non-billable expenses such as mandatory health insurance, books, airline tickets, taxes, and miscellaneous expenses, which students will need to pay out of pocket (approximately US $4,000 per year).

• Applicants must be international students.
• Applicants must need a non-immigrant visa (preferably an F-1 or J-1 student visa) to study in the United States.
• Applicants must not be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, U.S. pending permanent resident, or dual citizen of the U.S. and another country.
• Applicants must not be enrolled in or have already begun any post-secondary studies at another university in their home country or the United States.
• Applicants must not have graduated secondary school earlier than 2024.
• Students interested in all majors offered at American University are eligible to apply.

• Covers all billable American University expenses: full tuition, room, and board.
• Renews for a total of four years of undergraduate study based on continued satisfactory academic performance.
• Does not cover non-billable expenses such as mandatory health insurance, books, airline tickets, taxes, and miscellaneous expenses (students pay out of pocket, approximately US $4,000 per year).
• American University states that it also offers AU EGL Partial Scholarships valued at up to US $40,000 per year for selected candidates.
• American University states that no additional application process is needed to be eligible for AU EGL Partial Scholarships.

1. Submit the Common Application and all supporting documents before the Common Application deadline stated by American University.
2. After being invited to create an applicant portal, submit the AU EGLS application and essays via the applicant portal by the required AU EGLS deadline.
3. Complete Step 1 before submitting the AU EGLS application; late applications will not be considered.
4. Complete any Zoom interviews and/or additional essay submissions if selected as an AU EGLS semi-finalist and finalist.

• Bank letter.
• Completed and signed AU Declaration of Finances Form (AU DFF) confirming a minimum of US $4,000.
• Official English proficiency score results sent directly by the testing agency: TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo English Test (DET), PTE, LanguageCERT, or Cambridge Assessment English Test.
• AU EGLS application and essays submitted via the applicant portal.
