Canisius University offers the full-tuition Buffalo Promise Scholarship. The scholarship automatically covers 100% of the cost of tuition after any government aid for up to four years of undergraduate education at Canisius for eligible accepted students from the Buffalo area. Canisius describes it as effectively covering 100% of tuition for up to four years of undergraduate study at Canisius University.

The Buffalo Promise Scholarship is aimed at undergraduate freshmen who apply to and are admitted regular decision to Canisius as an undergraduate freshman and are enrolled at Canisius. Eligibility is based on living in Buffalo, defined as ZIP code beginning with 142, and household adjusted gross income at or less than $125,000. Canisius also requires students to meet award conditions after receiving the scholarship.

Canisius states the Buffalo Promise Scholarship is a “last-dollar” award. This means that after tallying federal and/or state aid, such as federal Pell Grants and state Tuition Assistance Program funds, Canisius covers the remaining balance of tuition, making the tuition 100% tuition free for eligible admitted students. Canisius also states it awards the scholarship at the same time as the financial aid award and requires the FAFSA to be filed and valid before awarding.

Canisius states the Buffalo Promise Scholarship supports up to four years of undergraduate education. As conditions of the award, students must attend Canisius for a minimum of two years and remain in good standing throughout their entire academic career at Canisius. Canisius also states it covers only undergraduate tuition at Canisius and does not cover fees, on/off-campus housing, or other living expenses.
