Ingram Scholars are students who plan to combine a professional or business career with an exceptional commitment to civic-minded service, innovation, an entrepreneurial spirit, and leadership, with commitment to developing personal roles in the solution to societal problems and maturity and initiative to lead positive social change. Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholars combine outstanding academic achievement with strong leadership and contributions outside the classrooms.

Vanderbilt states that these scholarships are very competitive, and that selected students represent the top 1 percent of all first-year applicants to Vanderbilt. All merit-based scholarships offered at Vanderbilt are renewable through four years of undergraduate study as long as the recipient maintains satisfactory academic performance.

Vanderbilt guarantees full-tuition awards plus summer stipends for study abroad, research, or service projects for over 225 recipients of these scholarships.
