Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) USA KSJ Fellowships

The Knight Science Journalism Academic-Year Fellowship at MIT is for full-time science journalists who receive an $85,000 stipend, a travel and housing stipend, and basic health insurance for them and their family.

• Must be a full-time journalist (on staff or freelance); part-time writers or producers are not eligible.
• Must have at least three consecutive years of experience covering science, health, technology, and environmental reporting.
• Must work as a reporter, writer, editor, producer, illustrator, filmmaker, or photojournalist, including work for newspapers, magazines, television, radio, and digital media.
• Must not have completed a fellowship of four months or longer during the two years prior to applying for the Knight Science Journalism Academic-Year Fellowship.
• Designed to recognize journalists from around the world who demonstrate a high level of professional excellence and accomplishment and a long-term commitment to their craft.
• International candidates are encouraged to apply; selected international fellows must obtain a valid visa from the U.S. State Department. MIT sponsors the fellow’s J-1 visa and dependents’ J-2 visas through the International Scholars Office (ISchO).
• MIT, as a J-1 program sponsor, is required to verify English language proficiency of all international fellows using application interview(s) and/or an English language proficiency test (such as IELTS or TOEFL); language proficiency tests are not required but may strengthen applications for candidates whose first/native language is not English.

• $85,000 stipend paid out in installments over 9.5 months
• Travel and housing stipend paid near the start of the fellowship
• Basic health insurance for each fellow and their family
