Open Call for Fellowship Applications, Academic Year

The Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University is accepting fellowship applications through an open call for an academic-year fellowship. The stated purpose is to support scholars who will spend the fellowship year in residence in Cambridge, MA and engage in collaborative, cross-disciplinary, and cross-sectoral exploration of the Internet’s issues.

Applications are invited from people whose work on Internet and society may overlap with ongoing work at the Berkman Klein Center. The fellowship is open to scholars, practitioners, innovators, engineers, artists, and others committed to understanding and advancing the public interest, including academics who are post-docs or professors. For the stated academic year, the Center says it is not welcoming students into the fellowship cohort.

• Applicant’s work on Internet and society may overlap with ongoing work at the Berkman Klein Center.
• Applicant may be a scholar, practitioner, innovator, engineer, artist, or others committed to understanding and advancing the public interest.
• If applying as an academic for the stated academic year, the applicant must be a post-doc or a professor.
• For the stated academic year, the Center is not welcoming students into the fellowship cohort.
• For the stated academic year, selection prioritizes applicants with a demonstrated record of contributing to public and scholarly conversations in their area of study.

• Opportunity to spend the fellowship year in residence in Cambridge, MA as part of the Berkman Klein Center community of research and practice.
• Expectation to produce at least one public output that impacts and informs scholarly and public debates (examples listed: technical or design prototypes; public writing; convenings; reports or white papers; a website or other online resource; academic writing such as a research paper).
• Opportunity to participate in weekly all-fellows sessions and other cohort-scoped activities such as working groups, skill-building sessions and trainings, workshops, and shared meals.
• Community engagement with people connected to the Berkman Klein Center through events, listserv dialogues, reading groups, joint projects, and more.
