Penn State-IISc Doctoral Scholarship for Research in Bangalore

Penn State and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) announce a doctoral scholarship for Penn State doctoral students to engage in research and education collaboration at IISc. IISc provides up to five scholarships, and the scholarship includes a monthly fellowship from IISc (on par with its own doctoral students) to support lodging in the campus guest house for 12 weeks of participation. Penn State Global also provides an $800 grant funded by Penn State Global.

The scholarship is aimed at Penn State doctoral students who are in good academic standing and who aspire to engage in research and education collaborations with IISc and relevant industry in Bangalore. Applicants are expected to describe evidence of collaborative research and education activities with IISc, including supervisory contacts at Penn State and IISc and expected outcomes of the research activities while on site.

Applicants must submit an application in InfoReady. The submission includes a cover page with specified identifying and academic details, a brief description of the reason for undertaking the trip (limited to two double-spaced pages) with evidence of collaborative research and education activities and expected outcomes, and one letter of support from Penn State plus a letter of recommendation from the direct faculty supervisor at Penn State. Selection is not described beyond these submission requirements.

If awarded, doctoral awardees must register their travel in Penn State’s Global Safety Network and coordinate their flights according to the funder’s travel protocol. The $800 grant is provided to the student awardee’s LionPath account upon arrival to IISc. Awardees must submit a summary report outlining outcomes of their visit within 30 days after completion of the trip, and they may be asked to participate in future Penn State Global programming.

4. Prepare Section 3: one letter of support from Penn State; a letter of recommendation from the direct faculty supervisor at Penn State describing how the proposed travel will contribute to research or education project(s), joint conferences, and/or co-publication(s).
5. Combine Sections 1–3 as one PDF document.
