Stanford University Hoover Fellowships

The Hoover Institution at Stanford University seeks scholars for positions as Hoover Fellows. The appointment term is from one to three years and is located at the Hoover Institution. Hoover Fellows are expected to publish scholarly articles and books with implications for public policy and to contribute to the intellectual life of the Hoover Institution, with no teaching responsibilities.

Hoover Fellows are expected to have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant field, such as economics, history, international relations, national security, political science, or public policy, and to engage with Stanford’s broader research community in their respective fields. The program is a research center position within Stanford University.

Candidates are selected based on the submitted materials required for application, including a cover letter or statement of interest describing academic background and experience, one or more recent publications or draft book chapters, a curriculum vitae, a statement about future research plans (two pages maximum), and three letters of recommendation addressing research accomplishments and potential for future research.

During the fellowship, Hoover Fellows receive a 12-month base salary range of $169,950 to $230,000, plus a $20,000 annual housing allowance. The appointment term is from one to three years. The position carries no teaching responsibilities, and no obligations after the fellowship are described.
