Texas Tech University Presidential Merit Scholarship

Texas Tech University offers Presidential Merit Scholarships as merit scholarships for entering first-time freshmen and transfer students who show exceptional academic ability. Annual award amounts pay one-half toward fall terms and one-half toward spring terms.

Presidential Merit Scholarships are described for entering first-time freshmen and transfer students. Merit awards are guaranteed to freshmen admitted by April 1 for fall entry. Transfer students may qualify if admitted by July 31 for fall entry or January 5 for spring entry.

Award amount is determined by test score and unweighted high school GPA. Students can designate test optional for both admission and scholarships on the application, but once an admission decision has been made, the test-optional designation cannot be changed.

Renewal requirements depend on the award amount. Students must enroll in a minimum of 12 hours for fall and spring terms. Awarding begins in October to qualifying admitted students. The page also describes possible scholarship upgrades based on higher SAT/ACT scores or a request for an upgrade review based on fall grades, with a deadline for upgrades of April 1 prior to fall enrollment.
