University of Southern Maine Graduate Assistantships

The University of Southern Maine Graduate Assistantship Opportunities page posts available graduate assistantship positions on a rolling basis and continues listing them as they become available. To be eligible for and maintain a Graduate Assistantship position, students must be matriculated in a graduate degree program at USM (certificate-only programs are not eligible). Students must also meet the academic and employment conditions listed on the page, including course enrollment during each semester they are employed as a GA.

Selection and assignment are handled through the application submitted for each posted position. Students must submit their application through the Graduate Assistant Application form by the date specified within the job description, and their materials must include a resume, cover letter, and any other materials requested in the job posting.

Support is conditional on maintaining the stated requirements, including maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0, remaining in good academic standing, making acceptable progress towards the degree, and maintaining enrollment in the required graduate credits during each semester employed as a GA. Additional limits apply to weekly work hours and eligibility restrictions apply to certain employment and student categories.

• Enroll in 6 graduate credits or more during each semester that they are employed as a GA.
• Be matriculated in a graduate degree program at USM; students in certificate-only programs are not eligible.
• Remain in good academic standing and be making acceptable progress towards their degree.
• Not be a University of Maine System employee.
• Maine Law and University of Maine students are not eligible for most USM Graduate Assistantships.
• Students may not hold more than 20 hours per week as a graduate worker (which includes Graduate Assistants, federal work study, and other forms of student employment).

• Employment as a Graduate Assistantship position, with roles identified as GA/RA/TA in the assistantship listings.
