Yale Emerging Climate Leaders Fellowship in USA &

The Yale Emerging Climate Leaders Fellowship brings together 16 emerging climate practitioners for a five-month program of learning, exchange, and network building. Yale Climate Fellows are based at the International Leadership Center at Yale’s Jackson School of Global Affairs, with partnerships across the university. The fellowship is described as broadening technical skills, deepening professional networks, and engaging directly with top global leaders in the clean energy transition.

The fellowship is aimed at working professionals from emerging and developing countries, with diverse representation from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Applicants are expected to have demonstrated accomplishments at the regional, national, or international level and to have professions linked to clean energy and climate change, including public servants, entrepreneurs, energy company professionals, financiers, journalists, educators, researchers, civil society representatives, legal advisers, and legislators.

Selection is described as highly competitive and based on criteria including an established record of achievement, commitment to impact at the local, national, or international level, demonstrated promise of future leadership, and eagerness to expand professional networks across the emerging world. The fellowship also describes geographic balance and diversity in gender, country of origin, and professional background across cohorts.

The fellowship experience includes an in-person week in New Haven followed by remote learning journeys, and then a closing week in Paris. It states there are no direct costs to participate beyond the application fee, and that the program covers round-trip airfare, hotels, and transfers for both in-person weeks, and most meals are provided.
