Gallaudet University: the applicant's brief

6 findings
  1. The short answer

Gallaudet University is a U.S. university in Washington, D.C. with programmes specifically designed for deaf and hard of hearing students. It suits applicants who want bachelor’s or master’s study in an environment built around that access needs, and it also admits some hearing students.

  2. What you can study

Study options include bachelor’s and master’s degrees across 20 programmes. Examples include Biotechnology (BS), Chemistry (BS), Data Science (MS), Data Science & Health Analytics (BS), Data Science and Biotechnology Research & Development (BS), Clinical Investigation and Development (MS), and Clinical Research (MS). The catalogue also includes acupuncture programmes at different levels, including DAC, MAC, and completion options.

  3. Getting in

International applicants should apply through the university’s official admissions process and check the current entry requirements on its website. Degree level matters, and the university admits hearing students to graduate study and a small number as undergraduates each year. Applicants should confirm required documents, deadlines, and any programme-specific conditions directly with admissions.

  4. What it costs

The university does not publish a fee for international students in this information; confirm the current tuition with its admissions office. Living costs in Washington, D.C. will still need to be planned for separately, including housing, food, transport, and health cover.

  5. Coming from abroad

The university serves deaf and hard of hearing students, and its programmes and services are designed around that. Before applying, confirm whether your programme is undergraduate or master’s level, whether you meet the admission route for international students, and what documents the university needs. Also check the website for language requirements, visa guidance, and any support services relevant to your status.

  6. How it compares

Among 2,515 universities in the United States, Gallaudet stands out because its entire academic and support setup is specifically designed for deaf and hard of hearing students. That makes it a very different choice from a standard U.S. university: applicants should look here if access, communication, and an environment built around hearing loss are central to their decision.
