University of Limerick Fellowships at Centre for Early Modern Studies, Ireland,2018
Scholarship Description: The University of Limerick (UL) is calling applications from experience researchers to apply for its Marie Sklodowska-Curie European Fellowships in collaboration with the Centre for Early Modern Studies. These fellowships fund excellent researchers looking to enhance their career development and prospects by working abroad.
The Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions (MSCA) aim to support the career development and training of researchers in all scientific disciplines through international and intersectoral mobility.
The Centre for Early Modern Studies, established in 2016, supports the research activities of scholars of the history and culture of the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries at the University of Limerick and Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. The Centre has core membership of 19 scholars and is multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary in character.
Degree Level: Fellowships are available to pursue Postdoctoral degree programme.
Available Subject: Fellowships are awarded on Early Modern and Medieval Book Culture. Viable research themes relating to the collection might include but are not restricted to:
The history of the Bolton Library
The profile of the collection: analysis of subject concentrations and distribution; of the material character of the books; of book provenance
The political, social, confessional and devotional purposes and implications of book collecting
Book collecting and self-fashioning
Interactions with the book trade
Readers, reading cultures and reading spaces
Scholarship Benefits: They will provide support for the preparation of the proposal to enhance the probability of success. Selected researchers will be matched to suitable mentors and will be able to avail of wide-ranging support and guidance from our Research support team and the proposed mentor as they develop their application.
Eligible Nationalities: This fellowship is available to applicants of all nationalities.
Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Experienced researchers: a doctoral degree or four years of research experience
- Mobility is required: come to Europe or work in another EU country
- Read the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships terms and conditions to ensure you are eligible (the 2018 Guide for Applicants is available here)
The Standard European Fellowships are divided into eight scientific areas and provide financial support to individual researchers undertaking international mobility.
- The researcher must be an experienced researcher (see Definitions). Periods of inactivity in research (e.g. unemployment, periods of employment outside research, parental or sick leave) do not count towards the time of research experience.
- The researcher may be of any nationality. No age restrictions apply.
- The researcher must move or have moved from any country to the MS or AC where the beneficiary is located. Specifically:
- The researcher cannot have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the beneficiary for more than 12 months in the three years immediately before the call deadline.
- For beneficiaries that are international European interest organisations (IEIO) or international organisations located in a MS or an AC, the experienced researcher must not have spent more than 12 months in the three years immediately before the call deadline in the same appointing organisation.
- Compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays and time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status (under the 1951 Geneva Convention and the 1967 Protocol) are not taken into account.
- Short stays are characterised by the type of activity rather than by a specific number of days. A period can only be considered as a short stay if the researcher did not reside nor have their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country during that period (such as holidays).
- After the call deadline, EF-ST proposals not complying with the EF-ST eligibility conditions but complying with the conditions of another panel will be automatically transferred there.
