Bachelor of Laws Honoursllb

The Bachelor of Laws Honours (LLB) at Africa University is an undergraduate programme in the School of Law, Department of Private Law. Students study areas such as Introduction to Law, African Legal Justice Systems, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Law of Contract, Law of Evidence, Commercial Law, Family Law, and Legal Research Methods, along with modules covering public and private legal practice.

Learning is full time at the Main Campus and has a duration of 5 year(s). The programme includes clinical learning and practice, such as Clinical Legal Education, Clinical legal education modules, and Public Sector Industrial Attachment and Private Sector Industrial Attachment, including continuous assessment and report components. Advanced work includes Dissertation and modules such as Human Rights Law, Intellectual Property Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Public International Law.

Normal Entry

• At least three good GCE Advanced Level passes or equivalent (competitive qualifications are an added advantage);
• At least 5 Ordinary Level passes at Grade “C” or better including English Language with at least a Grade “B” or equivalent.
• Students coming from outside Zimbabwe should have the equivalent qualifications in addition to being proficient in the English language.
• Students from outside Zimbabwe who are found by the Faculty to be not proficient in the English language shall undergo an Intensive English programme offered by Africa University before commencing the degree programme; pass the Intensive English programme with a minimum of a ‘B’ pass grade to qualify for the programme.

Special Entry

• In addition to satisfying the General University requirements, a candidate must hold a relevant qualification with substantial legal content at Diploma level and must have five “O” level subjects including English Language.
• Special entry may also be granted to a candidate who holds a good first degree from another discipline.
• In appropriate cases, special entry candidates may be granted exemptions to enable such candidates to complete the degree in eight semesters.
• For each intake a maximum of 2 candidates may be admitted on the basis of special entry.

Intensive English programme: minimum a ‘B’ pass grade.

• Conduct civil and criminal trials as defense or state counsel and/or judicial officer presiding over cases.
• Manage a law firm, court station or trust company or NGO.
