Canadian Study Permit Document Checklist

A study permit application succeeds or fails on its documents. Use this checklist as a starting point, then confirm the exact list for your country on the IRCC website.

Core documents

You will generally need a valid passport, your letter of acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI), and proof that you can pay tuition and living costs.

Proof of funds

Many students show a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) plus tuition payment. Others use bank statements, loan letters or sponsorship documents — clarity and consistency matter.

Supporting documents

A statement of purpose, ties to your home country, academic records, and (where applicable) a provincial attestation letter strengthen your case. Biometrics and a medical exam may also be required.

Next steps

Use our university directory and scholarship listings to compare your options, then send an enquiry and our advisors will help you build a shortlist and application plan.

This article is general guidance for international students considering Canada. Tuition, immigration rules and deadlines change often — always confirm the latest details with the official university and Government of Canada (IRCC) sources before making decisions.
