Working While Studying in Canada: The Rules

Most full-time students at eligible institutions can work during their studies, within limits set by IRCC. Knowing the rules protects both your finances and your status.

On- and off-campus work

Eligible students can typically work on campus, and off campus up to a capped number of hours per week during terms, with more flexibility during scheduled breaks. Caps have changed over time, so check the current limit.

Co-op and internships

If work is a required part of your programme, you usually need a co-op work permit in addition to your study permit. Your school’s international office can confirm the process.

Stay compliant
