Carleton University Prestige Scholarships

Carleton University offers its highest awards as Prestige Scholarships, including the Chancellor’s Scholarship, Richard Lewar Entrance Scholarship, Carleton University Scholarship of Excellence, Carleton University SHAD Scholarship, Jay Woo and CAA Scholarship, and Riordon Scholarship. Carleton University’s stated purpose for these prestige scholarships is tied to admission average and community or secondary school extra-curricular activities.

These awards are aimed at students who apply for Carleton directly from high school or CEGEP. Students who previously attended a post-secondary educational institution (college or university, excluding CEGEP) are not eligible. For all prestige scholarships, an admission average of 90 percent or better is required, and selection also assesses the range of community or secondary school extra-curricular activities.

Carleton University states that a selection committee will assess both academic standing and extracurricular involvement. Eligibility for consideration also requires an admissions average of 90% or better and demonstrated leadership roles in extra-curricular activities throughout school.

Most prestige scholarships are renewable* with annual GPA of 10.0, and renewable awards are capped at Canadian domestic full tuition fee amount where stated. The Riordon Scholarship is listed as “Full tuition” for the first, second, third, and fourth year, renewable* with annual GPA of 10.0, alongside 90% admission average and extracurricular activities throughout secondary school.

• Must achieve an admission average of 90 percent or better for all prestige scholarships.

• Renewable condition: annual GPA of 10.0.
• Renewable requirement is tied to “extracurricular activities throughout secondary school” for these awards.

• Ten Chancellor’s Scholarships: $32,000 total ($8,000 x four years), renewable*, with admission average and extracurricular activities throughout secondary school.
• Seven Richard Lewar Entrance Scholarships: $21,500 total ($6,500 in the first year and $5,000 in second, third and fourth year), renewable*, with admission average and extracurricular activities throughout secondary school.
• Three Carleton University Scholarships of Excellence: $20,000 total ($5,000 x four years), renewable*, with admission average and extracurricular activities throughout secondary school.
• Two Carleton University SHAD Scholarships: $20,000 total ($5,000 x four years), renewable*, with admission average and extracurricular activities throughout secondary school.
• Jay Woo and CAA Scholarship: $20,000 total ($5,000 x four years), renewable*, with admission average and extracurricular activities throughout secondary school.
• Riordon Scholarship: Full tuition in first, second, third, and fourth year, renewable*, with admission average and extracurricular activities throughout secondary school; capped at Canadian domestic full tuition fee amount.

1. Before applying, note that one application form is used for all the prestige scholarships.
2. Download the application file, open it in Adobe, and fill it out before submitting it via email.
3. Submit the application by sending an email to [email protected].
4. When emailing, ensure the reference letter is signed by the referee.
5. Attach both the application and the reference letter in the same email.
6. Include your student number in the email.
