UBC Canada Affiliated Fellowships Doctoral Program (Up to $40,000 in Funding)

The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at the University of British Columbia offers approximately 50 Affiliated Fellowships each year to meritorious students for full-time study and/or research leading to a graduate degree. Awards are made on the basis of academic excellence. Fellowship values range from $175 to $40,000, and The Faculty notes that most are in the range of $16,000.

Applications are open to current and prospective full-time UBC graduate students regardless of citizenship or visa status. The page states that awards apply to doctoral-level study and research. • For eligibility priority: priority is given to eligible candidates who do not hold significant scholarship funding (i.e., $16,000 or higher) for the specified academic period.
• Exceptions for holding other funding include: students are normally permitted to hold “GSI” and other department-recommended donor-funded awards, as well as RA/TA positions, at the same time they hold Affiliated funding.
• Recipients of 4YF funding will be eligible to be considered for Affiliated funding; if successful, some or all of their 4YF may be replaced by the Affiliated award.
• Some affiliated awards with niche eligibility may be awarded to a student who already has significant scholarship funding if the award receives a very low number of eligible applications.

1. All applicants for the Canada Graduate Research Scholarships – Doctoral competition will be automatically considered for Affiliated funding; students are not required to submit a separate application for Affiliated awards.

4. Submit your completed checklist of criteria-based affiliated awards to your graduate program before the application deadline of Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 12:00PM PT.
5. For nominations: graduate programs review and rank applications and forward top applicants to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
6. Graduate programs must submit nominations for doctoral-level Affiliated Fellowship funding to the Faculty by 4:00 pm PT on Tuesday, 13 October 2026.
