Introduction

Arts in Interpreting is a Semester 2 Bachelor program taught at University of Queensland, Australia. The program is offered in campus-based modes with part-time (1 Year part-time (only available as part-time study)) options.

The Graduate Certificate in Arts in Interpreting at the University of Queensland develops interpreting skills for real-time communication across languages and settings. Students build interpreting techniques, communication strategies, and ethical awareness. Later coursework applies these skills in increasingly complex situations, with options to specialise in Chinese or Japanese interpreting.

Practice-based learning runs through the program. Learning includes simulated interpreting activities, feedback sessions, and language-focused exercises. The program uses lectures, tutorials, work placements, online study, peer-assisted study sessions, seminars, and workshops, and it is delivered as a part-time program with a duration of 1 Year part-time.

The program can support pathways into professional interpreting and provides a foundation for further specialised study. Career possibilities listed include in-house/freelance interpreter, community interpreter, English teacher, and tourism and hospitality interpreter/translator. Graduates are eligible to apply to sit relevant NAATI certification tests without satisfying any other prerequisites.
