Bachelor's in Music Education
Introduction
Music Education is a Bachelor program taught at Mount Allison University, Canada. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
Mount Allison University’s Music Education (Bachelor of Music Education, BMusEd) combines musical training, teaching theory and practice, and hands-on classroom experience. The degree blends general pedagogical training, practical learning through teaching internships, and music-specific pedagogical approaches. It includes instruction in music theory, history, and performance, plus music creation and musicianship and aural skills.
The program uses three course types: a pedagogy core (including teaching practicums), a music core (including some courses shared with the Bachelor of Music), and electives in a single subject area outside music.
It includes 18 weeks of teaching practicums in New Brunswick schools, with 3-week spring internships in the music and non-music classroom and a 12-week fall internship in the music classroom. Students also complete three years of applied music instruction (studio lessons) and must participate in ensembles throughout the program.
