Introduction

Associate of Arts Degree (Education) is a Bachelor program taught at Northern Lights College, Canada. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

Northern Lights College’s Associate of Arts Degree (Education) prepares students for entry into the Alaska Highway Consortium on Teacher Education (AHCOTE), the joint teacher-training program offered by Simon Fraser University and NLC. The program includes a range of education courses plus first- and second-year arts and sciences courses, designed as a provincially recognized credential.

The program is 62 credits (900 hours), with a minimum. It is a two year program taken over four semesters, with a minimum of 15 credits per semester. Part-time studies will take longer. Students complete specified education and arts and sciences requirements, including EDUC 252 and EDUC-related practicum eligibility requirements.

For career outcomes, students who complete the Associate of Arts Degree designed for prospective teachers are eligible for AHCOTE and will eventually be seeking careers as teachers. Completion of the designated associate degree is not a guarantee of admission into AHCOTE. Intakes are offered in Fall, Winter, and Spring at Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson, and Fort St John.
