UNBC’s Education - Elementary (K - 7) is a Bachelor of Education (BEd) for students who want to teach kindergarten up to Grade 7 in B.C. schools. The Teacher Education Program covers First Peoples Principles of Learning, Indigenous Education, inclusive practices, assessment and evaluation, Applied Design and Skills and Technology, and curriculum and instruction across disciplinary areas or subject specialty. It is guided by the program pedagogy “People, Place, and Land.”
The program is a 16-month post-baccalaureate professional degree. Students complete four practicum experiences: observational in Term 1, experiential in Term 2 (three weeks), formative in the Spring Term (four weeks), and summative in the Fall (12 weeks). Practicum placements are typically in northern B.C. communities in B.C. public school districts or independent schools.
