Introduction

Education - Secondary (8 - 12) is a Bachelor program taught at University of Northern British Columbia, Canada. Intake: Sep. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (16-month post-baccalaureate professional degree program) options.

Education - Secondary (8 - 12) at University of Northern British Columbia is a Bachelor of Education (BEd) for applicants who want to become a high school educator in the K-12 school system.

Students apply an undergraduate degree with a teachable major or minor (such as English, math, chemistry, history) to teach Grade 8–12 students in B.C. schools.

The program covers the First Peoples Principles of Learning, Indigenous Education, inclusive practices, assessment and evaluation, Applied Design and Skills and Technology, and curriculum and instruction in different disciplinary areas or subject specialty.

The Teacher Education Program is guided by signature pedagogy of “People, Place, and Land” and focused on place-based, experiential in situ (on-site) learning. Students gain K-12 classroom experience throughout the 16-month program with four practicum experiences: Observational in Term 1; Experiential in Term 2 (three weeks); Formative in the Spring Term (four weeks); Summative in the Fall (12 weeks). Practicum placements are typically in northern B.C. communities with B.C. public school districts or independent schools.
