Introduction

Intensive Care is a Masters program taught at Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg Center for Advanced Studies (CAS), Germany. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (1–2 years) options.

The Duale Master Intensive Care (M. Sc.) prepares nurses for highly complex tasks in anaesthesiological, intensive care, and emergency medical care. DHBW CAS says students acquire detailed professional and practical knowledge in Intensive Care, Anaesthesia Care, and Emergency Care at master level (DQR 7). The program also includes social and self-competence, with aims to develop subject-specific problem awareness and contribute to further development of the field through academic discourse and participation in care process design.

DHBW CAS describes the program as job-integrated and dual: theoretical specialist modules for the state examination of the continuing education are studied at the university, and then the practical part is supplemented and assessed through the continuing education provider with the Dual Partner. The overall structure includes an opening workshop, 63 on-campus days, and one examination per module. Research project work and the master’s thesis are integrated into a project carried out in the student’s company or institution.

DHBW CAS states the master supports care professionals with a subject-affine Bachelor who work in or want to work in anaesthesiological, intensive care, or emergency medical care and training areas. It also supports applicants who want to acquire the continuing education in Intensive Care, Anaesthesia, or Emergency Care through the Dual Partner company at the same time as completing the master’s qualification.
