Bachelor's in Praktische Theologie in Vollzeit

Praktische Theologie in Vollzeit is a Bachelor program taught at Katholische Fachhochschule Mainz, Germany. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

Praktische Theologie in Vollzeit (B.A.) at Katholische Fachhochschule Mainz (Katholische Hochschule Mainz) teaches fundamental knowledge of theological disciplines and also content from pedagogy, psychology, and sociology. The course includes Philosophy, Sociology, Medienpädagogik, Dogmatik, Moraltheologie, Kirchengeschichte, and Religionspädagogik. Students also learn methods for professional practice, including how to teach religion, lead crisis talks, and preach.

The program has a strong practical component.

Three placements are fixed parts of the study plan: a block placement in a parish (6.5 weeks) after the 1st semester, a school placement (5 weeks) after the 3rd semester, and a placement in a social institution (120 hours in a block or part-time) after the end of lectures of the 4th semester and before the lectures of the 6th semester. International study abroad is possible as a semester abroad at a foreign university.

The Bachelor degree is the first section in the training for the pastoral role Gemeindereferent*in in the Catholic Church. After the Bachelor, a professional introduction follows in a Seelsorgeeinheit in the diocese. The program also supports careers in areas where religion plays a role, for example in Christian associations or in media.

The minimum requirements for admission in Praktische Theologie in Vollzeit at Katholische Fachhochschule Mainz for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:

• English Language OR any other language requirments as set by Katholische Fachhochschule Mainz as pre-requiste for admission in Praktische Theologie in Vollzeit.

• Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (HZB): allgemeine oder fachgebundene Hochschulreife oder die Fachhochschulreife. Alternativ eine berufliche Ausbildung, die mit der Note 2,5 oder besser abgeschlossen wurde oder eine berufliche Weiterqualifikation durch eine Meisterprüfung bzw. eine vergleichbare Prüfung.
• Vorpraktikum (6 Wochen) im seelsorglichen Bereich außerhalb der Heimatpfarrei oder ein Äuqivalent.
